My Story
Benjamin Wong graduated with honours from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of National University of Singapore where he studied under Associate Prof. Zhang Manchin, Principal Violist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, after being awarded full scholarships.
Benjamin has taken masterclasses with many international artists such as Paul Silverthorne, Yizhak Schotten, David Erlich. As a chamber musician, he founded the Duomo quartet and participated in chamber music programmes and festivals in France, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong and Australia.
His quartet is also one of the four quartet to enter the final round of Asia Pacific Chamber Music Competition in 2013.
As a professional orchestra player, he been performed under the baton of Eiji Oue, Philipe Herreweghe Mark Wigglesworth, Robert Spano, Tan Dun, and many other great conductors. He was Principal violist of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra, and guess player of Metropolitan Festival Orchestra(Singapore), Singapore Lyric Opera, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Macau Orchestra. Benjamin is now performing with Hong Kong Strings Orchestra and City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
As an music educator of more than 15 year of experience, Benjamin was appointed as a Leader-mentor for Singapore National Youth Orchestra in 2014. He had also conducted music activities for students in SOTA (The School of the Arts, Singapore). He has been teaching in music schools and international schools in Singapore which includes Coronation Music School and Anglo-Chinese School (International). He is now teaching violin classes for Light of Hope Music Training Program from Jockey Club Power of Music Program and various secondary and primary schools in Hong Kong.
